The July Meetup of Digital Transformation Perth was themed “Architecting for AI”. It was too broad a subject to take on in general terms, so I restricted myself to exploration of AI/ML in the context of an emerging design pattern: data mesh.
These slides capture the key points. Unfortunately, the questions and asides that often add to a presentation were not recorded. The talk essentially makes the case for preferencing products over platforms and states that AI/ML, as an enabling technical capability rather than direct generator of business value, must be directed at a domain-specific problem. Through a treatment of the four principles of data mesh, the presentation then considers how AI/ML technology might contribute to the realisation of the ‘analytical data plane’ of data products conceived within the data mesh approach.
